Well we hope that everyone had a great time at Hogmany! Judging by the photos of the day after on Whats App it certainly looks as though you all did. Ours started healthily enough with a tough little 18 mile bike ride looping around Finestrat and La Cala before returning to Camping Villasol along the promenade.
It was basically 1700ft of climbing followed by 1700 ft of decending with a little bit of flat at the end. The views of Benidorm on the way down were spectacular. The promenade was so busy it impossible to cycle.
Interestingly it was almost all Spanish people who were out and about. New Year seems to be a really big occasion for them too but doesn’t seem to involve alcohol. So basically the rule of thumb seemed to be people out walking are Spanish, people rat arsed in pubs are British. Sad but true.
We went out for a walk before meeting up with friends in the Yorkshire Pride. The was a lot of activity getting ready for the bells with televisions erected and a large stage build. Again it was the Spanish who were out in force.
Our friends were already in the Yorkshire Pride when we got there and we had a great night. Of course we celebrated the bells Spanish time, then just had to do it all again British time.
New years day, was a day of recovery and it was great to recover in the sun. We were also able to have dinner sitting outside the Silver Machine.
Today we had to get up early….8am, which was really tough. We had booked the bikes into the bike shop in Albir for a service and had to be there for 9am. It turned out to be a very pleasant morning, first walking thought the Parc Natural de la Serra Gelada to el Faro, a lighthouse at the end of the 2.2km path, before rewarding ourselves with a wee coffee con leche and croissants before picking up the bikes and returning back to Camping Villasol.
It’s a quiet night tonight for us and back out on the bikes tomorrow.
